Wow! Did November even happen? It’s always a high impact and busy month for FIRST, as education and business celebrate outstanding entrepreneurs in the If We Can You Can Challenge. ‘Huge congratulations’ to the 2019 award winners:
- Highest Growth Potential: SwitchAid
- Biggest Social Impact: Heartwood Skills
- Ones to Watch: Plastech Innovation
- Ideas Prize: The Book Exchange
With over 70 entrants, 500 guests at the events and 30 campaign partners; a tremendous thank you to everyone for uniting and supporting our region’s talent. It’s because of you we get feedback like this: “Thanks to everyone who was interested in my idea and who offered me their help! I can’t thank FIRST enough for facilitating the events that have connected me to so many great people”. In other news, Green for Go! Our collaborative project with PNE Group was in full swing with colleges across the North East, we were shortlisted for a national ‘Innovation in Education Award’ and we had an excellent time organising and facilitating Durham Startup Co. alongside Durham University and their sparky students.
Now the mad dash of November is over, December sees some excellent opportunities for businesses to network and develop skills. Check out our events calendar here for hand selected events we think may be of interest.
Green for Go!
This November we’ve been out and about across the North East teaching valuable enterprise skills to over 100 Level 2 learners from four North East colleges – Tyne Met College, Newcastle College, Gateshead College and Stockton Sixth Form.
Not only have us and PNE Group been teaching them about self-employment, but we’ve also been making sure they understand the importance of sustainable business and how they can change the world through the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals!
If you’d be interested in attending our live final on Thursday the 13th of February 2020 and hopefully inspiring our next generation of changemakers then please contact Alice Holliday at email@example.com
Who knows, they just might inspire you too!
Building Steps to a Brighter Future
We are continuing to work on ‘Building Steps’ which is a community intervention project based in North Tyneside which sets out to help those who are unemployed and aged 18-29 from North Tyneside to find work, get job ready or set up their own business.
We’re reaching out to North Tyneside based charities, CICs and community interest groups to recruit participants onto ‘Building Steps’ and if you know of anyone who might be interested, or know an organisation we should contact please contact Alice via email firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 07922090726.
This project is part-funded by the European Social Fund.
It may be cold outside, but inside the FLYING SPARKS workshop the fire keeps burning! Our participants have completed their level 1 and are now halfway through their level 2s. The team have visited local engineering firms and spoken to industry professionals all with the aim of growing their network’s and giving them the best chance of securing stable employment, once the course comes to a close!
We are still looking to connect with local engineering and manufacturing firms, to organise work experiences, site tours, apprenticeships and employment opportunities. If you, or someone within your network, would like to become part of the network of businesses and industry professionals supporting our participants, please contact Jackson using: 07856 246 375 or email: email@example.com
FLYING SPARKS is part-funded by Newcastle College and North of Tyne Community Led Local Development with funding from the England European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.
