Launching in June, FLYING SPARKS is a project that’s aim is to support people from in and around Newcastle to make positive steps towards employment whilst taking part in a 16 week long, Level 2 Welding and Fabrication course at Newcastle College’s Energy Academy starting in September. Our aim is that by January 2020 all participants will be in employment or be taking a positive step towards becoming employed.
WHY SHOULD YOU GET IN TOUCH AND GET INVOVLED?
If you enjoy practical/hands on work, like to get creative or have an interest in the engineering sector, then this project is for you! This is a fantastic opportunity to learn a new skill in a fun and engaging way, whilst taking your next step towards employment. As part of the course the FLYING SPARKS team will also be running activities and offering experiences that are designed to draw out and improve the other essential skills that employers are looking for. Things like:
· Teamwork/interpersonal skills
· Problem Solving
· Public speaking
As well as the above, you will also be connected to industry mentors and have the opportunity to take part in both mock and real interviews, in order to give you the best chance of securing employment.
In order to check whether you are eligible to take part and secure your spot, please contact Jackson on: 07856 246 375 or email him via: email@example.com
BUSINESSES – HOW DO WE WANT YOU TO GET INVOLVED?
In a nutshell:
· Employment opportunities
· Mentorships (6 hour over 4 months)
· Time for mock and real interviews (4 hours over 2 months)
· Tours of factories/workplaces (ideally including welding, manufacturing or engineering)
· Talks on your journey and what you have learned
We aren’t looking for all of these from each individual business, however as they say, the more the merrier! It may be that you are currently unable to offer employment. That’s fine, you may be able to offer one of the other opportunities or create a unique opportunity of your own. Either way, we want to work with you to grow the skills and experience of our participants.
HOW DOES THIS BENEFIT YOU?
As we are all aware, the current recruitment process does not always source the correct person for the job. Leading to high staff turnover and a lack of motivation in teams, due to a lack of passion. Each of these participants is involved because they want to change their current situation and they are interested in the sector. This is a unique opportunity to see a future employee in a work environment, connect with them, build rapport and loyalty and allows you to tailor their research and learning to your organisation before they begin working with your company.
In addition, you will be giving someone the opportunity to enhance their life, support themselves and grow as a person.
