Flaming June! Half way through the year and it’s supposed to be our hottest month! Whatever happens to the weather we hope it’s a ‘hot month’ for you and continues to be for the region’s young people wanting to access their first job and the range of ambitious young companies that are entering the If We Can You Can Challenge.
A highlight on the employability side of the business is the work the team is doing with an innovative ‘never been done before’ consortium on the Building Steps to a Brighter Future 3 year project. Recently kick-started in North Tyneside, the project seeks to support 18-29 years who need a range of skills to get them job ready and into sustainable employment or self-employment. As part of this project, we will be providing young people with connections to the local business community, work placements and enterprise skill development.
Alongside this we have a new project called “FLYING SPARKS” which aims to connect learners, predominantly from Walker, Wallsend and Byker to welding courses at Newcastle College. FLYING SPARKS is part-funded by Newcastle College and North of Tyne Community Led Local Development with funding from the England European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.
Over on the enterprise side we’re laying the groundwork for a new generation of shiny new college startups. Our STARTUP SHOP in collaboration with Newcastle College will empower a student project team to explore the viability of creating a space on campus where fellow students can trade products and explore the startup world! A project which will generate a pipeline of startups for the If We Can You Can Challenge.
If you’ve already got a burning idea for a business or want network leverage and PR to help you gain traction and customers the If We Can You Can Challenge is for you! Any sector, any age as long as you’re based in the North East and have a startup or idea less than 3 years old – Entries are now open!
So in between day-dreaming about ice-cream on the beach, we have been working on some really exciting projects due to take place over the next 6 months. And we are not the only ones! We were delighted to learn about the North East Initiative on Business Ethics £100 Club – and we have signed up!
