The North East has one of the lowest startup rates in the country. To quote leading academic Professor Sharon Mavin: ‘you can’t be what you can’t see’. The If We Can You Can Challenge exists to shine a spotlight on the region’s startups, inspiring others to take the leap, stretch skills and challenge ‘the way things are done’.
The 24th of April saw the launch of this year’s If We Can You Can Challenge. We kicked off the competition with a ‘Journey of Inspiration’ Bus Tour across Newcastle and Gateshead; hearing from startups in the region’s incubator spaces. Thanks to Go North East for supporting us on this mission with a branded #IWCYC #StartupTour bus (you may have seen it on social media!) taking us from location to location – competition supporters, partners, team and of course the local startups we work with had a great time and many new connections were made.
The day didn’t end there as we were hosted by the Biscuit Factory to celebrate the launch of this year’s competition. Here we raised a glass to the partners who’ve already pledged support; so thanks again to Deloitte, NEL fund Managers; Mincoffs Solicitors; Go North East, O Communications, North East Times Magazine; GetFilm; PNE Enterprise; Entrepreneurs’ Forum; Northumbria, Teesside & Sunderland Universities! You can watch the video from the day HERE.
Entries for the competition are now open, so to find out more about this year’s plans along with how the competition works, visit the new If We Can You Can Challenge website now.
And if that wasn’t exciting enough, the North East has an array of amazing events coming your way this May, so the IWCYC team will see you out and about soon!
