2019 has begun! Every new year provides a fresh start, but this year FIRST is building on some strong foundations across its three work areas.
2018 witnessed a record-breaking year for the If We Can You Can Challenge as it celebrated its 10th birthday and as a result we’re now planning a partnership-programme of activities leading up to the 2019 final.
We want to make sure that we work with partners who are best placed to help growing businesses. Zoe and the team are already renewing existing relationships and forging ahead with new ones. Onwards and upwards for a thriving start-up community in North East England!
Since September FIRST has also placed 55 work-hungry students in startups and SMEs in County Durham, Sunderland, South Tyneside, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland. Business beneficiaries have included RBD Jewellery who worked recently with a talented mechanical engineering graduate. Ian Ward, RBB Jewellery’s Director said “We’re a very small business with aspirations to grow and had mapped out a plan, but simply couldn’t find the time alongside existing commitments. The student placement scheme has solved the issue for us – We now have the services of an intelligent, enthusiastic individual with skills that are well matched to our requirements, who is making things happen and at no cost to ourselves.”
